Amal Abu Hanna/ Nine Lives
Solo Exhibition
Through these photographs, Abu Hanna invites us into a chaotic universe that she has taken on the responsibility of restoring order to. By doing this she creates a space that is both welcoming and isolated, but elegantly so.
She employs aesthetics and repetitive design in vacant spaces for the purpose of reviving that which exists no more. Refusing to reconcile with death, she attempts to scatter beauty among the ashes of those gone and thus satisfy her desire to have control over life by imposing a new reality on people, items and spaces that she sees through the lens of her camera.
Each photograph documents in its own way a sensation that has risen up to its surface upon contemplation of the familiar - the home and the self.
Abu Hanna attempts to touch the spiritual perfection inherent in death, and to open a passageway between dimensions that allows her to cross over to a hidden universe where she can locate everyone and everything that has perished, even if for a brief instant.
